It’s time for one of our best, and strangest, holidays, Halloween. When else is it okay to maraud through the neighborhood in a disguise demanding sugary snacks?
No haunted house or Halloween get-together is complete without a soundtrack. You have come to the right place. Spotify is home to over 600K playlists dedicated to the celebration of Halloween, offering plenty of music for those looking to set a spooky mood this year. We winnowed this big grab bag of musical candy down to just the most popular songs played in the US last year from those global Halloween playlists.
The United States streams more Halloween music on Halloween than any other country where Spotify is played, partially due to its size, but also because Halloween is so widely celebrated here. Over the past three years, US listeners accounted for 75 percent of Halloween streaming.
So, what are these Halloween playlist listeners listening to? Yes, they dig the Monster Mash (twice, in fact, and again as the Monster Rap), but there’s much more great Halloween music to listen to. Feel free to pick choose the ones you like for your own Halloween playlist.
Here it is, a big bag full of Halloween music candy from Spotify Halloween playlists, ranked by order of plays in the US:
For the data, we looked at the most streamed songs from all of the 600K+ Halloween playlists on Spotify.
Some songs are just popular because they’re popular. So to capture the essence of the Halloween spirit, we excluded songs that were included because they were hits around this time last year. Here are some direct links to these chart–toppers from Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Imagine Dragons, Avril Lavigne, Ke$ha, Fallout Boy, Haim, Macklemore, Eminem, Aviici, Calvin Harris, Lorde, and J. Cole.
However, most of these Halloween songs appear to be timelessly spooky.
